Port International has been operating as a climate-neutral company offering climate-neutral produce since 2017. Our goal is to make our entire product range climate-neutral by 2030.
In 2019, we launched the brand BE CLIMATE to offer consumers an easy, transparent way to contribute to climate protection.
For all our climate-neutral products, we calculate and compensate for our CO2 footprint using the “cradle-to-customer plus waste“ approach. In other words, the footprint encompasses the cultivation, packing and ripening of the fruit (if applicable) along with transport to the retailer and disposal.
Primary data
for precise calculations
As far as possible, we use primary data to calculate our CO2 footprints along the supply chain. This doesn’t just include the quantity of fertiliser and pesticide used but also the logistics from manufacturer to field. We also take a holistic approach to packaging and keep records of all the materials produced including their weights and the underlying logistics.
All our CO2 balance sheets comply with the specifications in the “Greenhouse Gas Protocol” (GHG Protocol). This enables us not only to give customers and consumers an emission value that matches the product but also to show how this leverages CO2 reduction.
Focus on
reduction
Our primary goal is to motivate our partners to look for innovative, climate-friendly alternatives so that emissions are kept to a minimum not only at Port International but also along the supply chain.
We have already realised several projects in cooperation with our partners since the brand was introduced. Others are still under way. These include installing solar panels to generate green electricity, electrifying various processes, planting trees, creating new green spaces, and switching from cars to bikes and public transport.
Compensation
WITH CERTIFIED CLIMATE PROTECTION PROJECTS
All remaining emissions are compensated through two internationally recognised climate protection projects, each of which accounts for 50%. One is a wind energy project in Chile, the other a clean drinking water project in Malawi. Both projects are Gold Standard certified.
To improve readability, CO2 on this website always refers to CO2e (= CO2 equivalents)
